Championship Lode Runner Walkthru --------------------------------- General Instructions: Each of the 50 files in this series shows you how to solve each of the 50 levels of Championship Lode Runner (Copyright 1984 by Broderbund Software, Inc). These are NOT HINTS; they are detailed step-by-step solutions. Each solution begins with a map, with the following legend: %% = Brick floor $$ = Chest !! = Ladder ## = Solid floor -- = Overhead Line ?? = Guard ** = Trapdoor && = You Each of the maps has several key locations, marked by a letter in the right half of the symbol; for instance, gold chest A would be $A on the map. Some things to keep in mind: These solutions are >NOT< the only way to win; they will not guarantee you the highest score. They will show you relatively safe ways to beat all fifty levels. In many levels, you will have to perform several actions in sequence >>WITHOUT<< stopping to get your bearings (usually because a guard is coming after you or a hole dug in a floor is about to fill in). The sequences will be presented in the walkthru in a single paragraph with the words >MOVE OUT!< at the start to alert you to the timing imperative. There are several quirks in how the guards run that are used throughout these walkthrus. It's good to keep them in mind in case you deviate from the given sequence and have to improvise. --If a guard is above you on a ladder, by moving up toward him you will often find a spot where the guard will climb up and >away< from you rather than down toward you. --If you are on a ladder, and a guard is on the ground below you, you can make him change direction by going up and down. --You can run out of a trapdoor to either side if the next block is not another floor or trapdoor. --You can also dig while "trapped" in a trapdoor. --While falling, if you land directly on top of a falling guard, you can run to either side or dig while standing on his head. Be careful, though, because attempting to move up or down in this situation will cause the guard to reach up and grab you. --The save-game feature of Championship Lode Runner gives you the ability to practice a level indefinitely before moving on to the next one (and thus not cost you men). Here's an example: suppose I just got to Level 12, and I want to try out a few things before attacking it "for the record". I will press Ctrl-S and save the game under a name like "12A". I will then immediately press Ctrl-L, load "12A" again, and then immediately press Ctrl-S >AGAIN< and save the game a second time as "12B". Assuming I had (for example) 8 men left when I originally saved the game, I will now have version 12A saved with 7 men and version 12B saved with 8 men. I can practice using 12A, and my score on 12B is saved. If I want more practice, I can load 12B and save 12A again; now 12A has the original 8 men, and I can practice on 12B. Š --In case of frustration, save the game and walk away for an hour. The game is much more patient than any person.
