DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible for any damage this program might cause--use at your own risk. SETUP: Run the SETUP.EXE program to set soundblaster parameters if you want audio. It's pretty obvious how to run it. Unless you remap the keyboard with the setup program, all control will be with the number pad: 7=dig left 8=up 9=dig right 4=left 5=down 6=right SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: DOS, or a windows DOS shell, (It won't run as well under windows. I think the movement will be a little jerky). A fast cpu, probably 486DX2-33 minumum before you start getting slowdown. VESA gfx library to allow the 640x480x256 video mode. 1 MEG of video memory 450K of conventional memory 300K of disk space For sound: Any soundblaster clone HOW TO PLAY: Collect all the objects and make your way to the top of the level. Enemies can be walked on. You can trap them in a dug brick for a while if they fall into it. The flashing object is worth 8000 points if it is collected first. On some levels there is a hidden enemy. There are 3 locations that when dug the enemy might appear. In the level editor these locations are bricks with a question mark in them. Fake bricks appear grey, the player can see them but the enemies cannot. The enemies think they can walk over the fake bricks. Exit the game at any time by hitting control-x. If you can complete the level without trapping an enemy (trapping is when an enemy falls into a dug brick), you get a 20000 point bonus. If you trapped but completed the level without killing an enemy, you get a 10000 point bonus. The scoring is unique for each level. If you finish a level and beat the previous high score, your name gets placed in the high score file for that level, and a recording of your performance is written off as well. In demo mode these movies are played back. During play, if you hit the 'k' key it will kill the guy, in case he gets trapped somewhere and can't get out. From DEMO mode you can hit: F1=start game at next unplayed level F2=Enter animator F3=Enter level editor F4=start game at level 1 F5=Change player name (you have to hit space first to get to the menu) F8=Skip to next demo level ANIMATOR: It starts up editing the background artwork file. Everything is pretty self explanatory, especially if you've ever tried dpaint. ALT-1 selects background artwork ALT-2 selects player's sprite artwork ALT-3 selects enemy's sprite artwork ALT-4 selects hidden enemy's sprite artwork ALT-w writes back current file to disk (THIS ACTUALLY WORKS) x = flip x on current grabbed brush, or if no grabbed brush, flip tile y = flip y on current grabbed brush, or if no grabbed brush, flip tile z = rotate 90 degrees current brush, or if no grabbed brush, rotate tile b = select brush mode (pick up rectangular gfx) Color 0 is always transp. d = draw mode f = fill mode v = vector mode u = undo = = increase size of built in brush - = decrease size of built in brush Shift-b = return to previous grabbed brush , = pick color . = select built in single point brush ESC = return to DEMO MODE For all brushes, clicking the left mouse button will draw with either the current color or the current grabbed brush. Clicking the right mouse button will always draw with the background color. Clicking the left mouse button on the color palette selects the foreground color. Clicking the right mouse button on the color palette selects the background color. Clicking either mouse button on the foreground/background color boxes on the middle right is shorthand for picking the foreground or background color, depending on which button. (Alt- 1-4 will result in the loss of any nonsaved changes to the current artwork file) LEVEL EDITOR The top row of keys on your keyboard selects the fill type: `=empty, 1=brick, 2=cement, etc. ALT-F = fill with current fill type Right arrow = increase level # Left arrow = decrease level # Keypad - = load previous level (if no changes have been made to current level) Keypad + = load next level (if no changes have been made to current level) l = load current level (or alt-L if changes have been made) SPACEBAR = try level, while playing hit ESC to exit, or 'k' to kill ESC = return to DEMO mode Left mouse button draws current fill type. Right mouse button always draws with empty. You can't save the level, it's only a demo version. -------------------------------------------------------------- DISTRIBUTION: You can distribute this version freely, in the original zipped form or equivalent (meaning all the files are intact and the directory structure is unchanged). Please don't make any changes to any of the files, and if you hack the game please don't distribute your hack, it will only cause me grief :^(. Let everyone work such things out on their own. This version of the game is FREEWARE. Or maybe you could call it CRIPPLEWARE. To get the full game you've got to actually buy it. Distribute this version as widely as you can, it would help me out to get as many people as possible to see it. Feel free to include it on disk collections of PD titles, shareware titles, or games demos. Charge whatever you think you can get for it (but to whoever bought it, if you feel you were ripped off, blame them, not me :^). -------------------------------------------------------------- To buy the full game, send cash, check or money order for $25.00 US ($22 for the game, $3 for shipping). US orders will be shipped priority mail. Foreign orders will be shipped first class airmail. If you want to save time, I can probably email you a copy once I get the money in my hands. In that case you can deduct $3 from the price. Just send me email first to let me know your payment is on the way. The full game has many improvements. There are 180+ levels. The level editor save function works. There is background music (which can be turned off), there are new graphics sets. Misc other stuff also.
