Deark is a portable command-line utility that can decode certain types of files, and either convert them to a more-modern or more-readable format, or extract embedded files from them. It also has an option (-d) to display detailed information about a file’s contents. It’s free and open source.


The download package includes source code, and a Windows 64-bit (x64) binary, in the “x64” directory. Windows users may need to install a utility that supports .tar.gz format, such as 7-Zip.
